DECC's purpose

The Department of Energy and Climate Change is consulting on a draft Nuclear National Policy Statement. It is one of five technology-specific energy National Policy Statements which cover renewable fuels, oil and gas, transmission networks, coal, and nuclear. Together, they are designed to help maintain our energy security as we move towards a low carbon future.

We are consulting on the draft Nuclear National Policy Statement and the draft list of nuclear sites. The draft NPS explains the assessment of sites, why we need new nuclear power, and also the Government's policy on managing radioactive waste safely. The NPS will set the framework for planning decisions on new nuclear power stations.

We want to hear your views.

The local issues

Rockhampton resident, Professor Gareth Williams, gives an excellent and concise view of local issues around the proposed development.
